Farewell beautiful England with your plentiful wild produce! Yesterday we spotted this row of juicy sloes and thought of all the sloe gin we could make from them. There were rosehip and blackberries and it doesn't bear to think about all the deliciousness we could have made with them. But today we're saying farewell, auf wiedersehen and adieu to our home country of 14 years. @julieann_gill and @paul.binstead it's now up to you two to pick ALL the sloes in South of England. Prepare us something delicious for when we come back! #sloe#sloeberries#wildfood#england#isakstable

It's that time of year again (seems a little earlier then previous years) for sloe picking! This year has been a bumper harvest, which is great not only for us, but for the wildlife that feeds on them too! The sloe berry is the fruit of the Blackthorn plant (Prunus spinosa) and can be used to flavour alcohol. Traditionally sloe gin is the preferred spirit so I gave it go!
It's starting to become a bit of a tradition... Sloe in the making.
First pick your sloe berries, prick them all with a needle and leave it overnight in the freezer.
Tommorow will I tell you our little secret to make your own perfect sloe, just in time for the holiday season.
